Open-source autonomous coding agent for VS Code and the terminal that works with any model provider through your own API keys.

Overview
Cline is an open-source (Apache 2.0) coding agent that runs as a VS Code extension and a CLI. It plans and executes tasks step by step: reading and editing files, running terminal commands, launching a browser to test a web app and asking for approval before each risky action. It is model-agnostic, so teams bring API keys for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter or local models through Ollama and pay providers directly at cost; there is also an optional Cline provider account. A built-in MCP marketplace lets the agent connect to databases, GitHub, Slack and other services. Developers at small companies use it as a transparent alternative to closed assistants when they want to control model spend and see every action the agent takes. The Teams plan adds a usage dashboard, centralised billing and role-based access. A pilot is simply installing the extension and adding one API key. Caveat: because inference is pay-as-you-go, an unattended long task can consume a surprising amount of tokens, so spend limits on the provider side are important.
