Overview

What it does.

Graphite is a code review platform built on top of GitHub that combines a stacked-PR CLI, a review inbox, a merge queue and an AI reviewer called Diamond. The AI reviewer reads each pull request against the codebase and leaves comments on logic errors, missing edge cases and style issues, with teams able to add custom review rules in plain language. The stacking workflow lets developers break large changes into small dependent PRs that are reviewed and merged in order, which shortens review cycles for teams of two to twenty engineers. It integrates with GitHub, Slack and VS Code and ships a browser extension that upgrades the native GitHub PR view. A small product team pilots it by connecting one GitHub organisation, enabling Diamond on a single repository and comparing time-to-merge over a few weeks. Caveat: Graphite only supports GitHub, so teams on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps cannot use it, and numeric AI review caps on the lower tiers are not published.

Verdict

Who it suits.Who it doesn’t.

Best for

  • GitHub-based teams that want faster review cycles through stacked PRs plus an AI reviewer in one tool.
  • AI first-pass review combined with a stacked PR workflow that keeps each change small and reviewable.
  • Reviewing and merging many small agent-generated pull requests through a merge queue.

Not ideal for

  • Teams hosting code on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps, which Graphite does not support.
  • Stacking requires developers to learn a new CLI habit, which slows adoption for some teams.
  • It does not generate code; it only reviews, organises and merges it.
