Overview
Gusto is a payroll and HR platform used by more than 400,000 small US businesses. It runs unlimited payrolls, files federal, state and local taxes, issues W-2s and 1099s, and manages health benefits, 401(k), workers comp and PTO. Employees self-onboard, sign documents and view pay stubs in their own accounts. Gusto's AI assistant, Gus, answers payroll and compliance questions inside the product, and the Plus plan adds time tracking, multi-state payroll, hiring tools with job postings and offer letters, and performance reviews. Premium adds certified HR advisors and compliance alerts. It integrates with QuickBooks Online, Xero, FreshBooks, Homebase, Deputy, When I Work, Expensify and Slack. A small shop or agency would pilot by running one parallel payroll against the current provider before the quarter starts, then switching so year-to-date figures migrate cleanly. Caveat: hiring a single employee in a second state forces the Plus plan and doubles the per-person fee, and Gusto only serves US-based employers.
