Overview

What it does.

Warp is a terminal application that replaces the default shell interface with a block-based editor, command autocomplete and an embedded agent that can run multi-step tasks such as fixing a failing build, writing a script or carrying out a migration. Natural-language prompts are translated to shell commands, errors are explained inline and the agent can read the codebase in the current directory. Warp Drive stores shared notebooks and workflows so a small team can keep deployment runbooks next to the commands that execute them. Paid plans include a monthly allowance of agent usage billed at model API rates, with optional bring-your-own keys on Business. It is used by developers and ops people at small companies who spend much of the day in a terminal and want AI help without leaving it. A pilot is installing the free tier and using the agent for routine tasks like git operations and log analysis for a week. Caveat: agent usage beyond the plan allowance is pay-as-you-go, and some teams dislike that terminal sessions and AI prompts pass through a cloud service.

Pricing
Free; Build $20/month ($18 annual) with $20 of agent usage at API rates; Max $200/month ($180 annual); Business $50/user/month ($45 annual); Enterprise custom (Oct 2026).

Verdict

Who it suits.Who it doesn’t.

Best for

  • Developers and DevOps engineers who want AI assistance directly in the terminal rather than in an editor.
  • Generating shell scripts, one-off commands and config files from natural language.
  • Storing shared runbooks and parameterised commands in Warp Drive.
  • Running agent tasks like dependency upgrades, build fixes and scripted migrations from the terminal.

Not ideal for

  • Teams with strict rules against cloud-connected terminals or those who rarely work in the command line.
  • Less suited to large multi-file application changes than an IDE agent.
  • Shared objects are limited on the Free tier.
  • Usage beyond the monthly allowance is metered at API rates.
