Small business accounting with Intuit Assist AI for categorizing transactions, chasing invoices and explaining cash flow.

Free double-entry accounting and invoicing for very small businesses, with paid AI receipt capture and bank auto-categorization.

Overview
Wave is accounting and invoicing software aimed at solopreneurs and businesses with fewer than ten employees. The Starter plan is free and includes unlimited invoices, estimates, bills, double-entry bookkeeping, basic reports and the mobile app. The Pro plan adds automatic bank transaction import, auto-categorization of transactions, unlimited receipt scanning that reads totals and vendors from photos, late-payment reminders and discounted card processing. Payroll and bookkeeping advisors are paid add-ons. Wave is a common first system for Etsy sellers, tradespeople, tutors and small shops who want to invoice professionally without a subscription, then upgrade when bank feeds become worth paying for. It integrates with Stripe-style card payments through Wave Payments, PayPal via Zapier, Google Sheets and a public API. A pilot is simple: create the free account, send real invoices for a month, then trial Pro to see whether bank import saves enough bookkeeping time. Caveat: Wave is only available to US and Canadian businesses and has fewer integrations than QuickBooks or Xero.
